Get Emma Watson’s red carpet make-up
Here at Prom we loved seeing our fave starlet Emma Watson looking all grown up and womanly at the New York première of the final Harry Potter movie, The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, *wipes a tear.* She finally got out of her comfort zone and went all sophisticated and mysterious with dramatic eyes that contrast her usual minimal, innocent look. Here’s a few tips on how to wow the crowds like this golden girl come prom night…
Eyes
By creating such a dramatic look, Emma’s make-up artist would have been thinking about all the cameras pointing her way on the night, and you’ll be in a similar situation for prom. Don’t go crazy, though – people will be standing up close to you too and they don’t want to feel like they’re talking to a panda all night (a glamorous panda, but un-flattering none the less). Firstly, use a brow pencil to neatly extend your eyebrows toward your temples, tapering into a point. Use a metallic bronze eyeshadow such as the MeMeMe quad palette in goddess, £6.50 from Superdrug, to build up layers of colour across the eyelid. Work the darkest shade into the socket and extend outwards and upwards towards your newly extended eyebrow. Next paint in towards the bridge of your nose up to the brow for real impact. Smudge a little shadow under the lash line too and outline the whole eye with dark brown pencil. Finish with black mascara.
Lips
Emma’s never been bold with lipstick and we’re not too sure why – she’s got fab lips and great teeth. But with this look a neutral gloss is just the ticket, especially with such dramatic eye make-up. Lips OR eyes is the golden rule here! Try lightly covering your lips with concealer, then draw the shape back in softly with a flesh-toned lip liner and blend. Add a nude lippy finished with a little gloss for a subtle sheen. We love this one from Next in Mocha, just £3.
Skin
Luckily for Emma, she’s never been plagued by those dreaded teen spots and we reckon that’s largely due to a regular skincare routine from an early age using gentle, purifying products with plenty of natural ingredients such as the Good Things range for young skin. Try the Ultra Rich Creamy Scrub, £4.99, 200ml at Sainsbury’s to wash away dead cells that make skin look dull. Emma keeps skin dewy with a light foundation set with a translucent powder to avoid that masking effect.
Hair
Emma’s slicked-back locks are ultra sophisticated, fixed with a light smoothing cream such as TIGI Bed Head After Party 100ml, £12.90 feelunique.com to control fly-aways and to enhance shine. Achieve this look with long hair by creating a side parting and sweep into a chic chignon or pleat. If you have a long fringe, brush away from your face with the rest of your hair and either clip and/or fix with hairspray. If you have a short fringe or wide forehead then don’t be afraid to keep it down – just keep it groomed by misting hairspray onto a comb and work through the hair.
