How to get volumised hair

Volumised 60’s style hair a la Adele, SJP and Cheza is big, big, BIG and we’ve twisted the arm of celebrity hairdresser and all-round hair guru Lee Stafford to spill the beans on how to get luscious bodied locks in just 5 simple ...

1.

To avoid hair looking lank and lifeless after washing, go for a milf shampoo and a light leave in conditioner with a volumising ingredient. Steer clear of rinse out conditioners that can often weigh hair down, leaving it limp and greasing -  a big no-no for prom!

2.

Beauty School To achieve long lasting volumous curls, firstly rough dry your hair with a towel after washing and then give it a quick blast with the hairdryer. Apply a handful of my Trevor Sorbie Volumising Mousse (£5.10, Boots) and blow-dry roughly again using a medium to high speed and heat setting. The hotter the setting, the more lift you will attain from your hair.
Warning: Don’t use too much heat as you can dry out or damage your hair!

3.

Be sure to vary the heat and wave the dryer so that you don’t concentrate the air flow on one section of hair for too long. Aim the blow dryer airflow up the hair shaft, from the roots to the ends of the hair. This will help add extra lift.

4.

Once hair is dry, use big barreled heated rollers – take 2 inch sections of hair from the center front and comb it straight up smoothing out any tangles. Wrap the ends of the sectioned hair around the roller taking care not to buckle the hair. Then wind the roller down firmly towards the scalp. Keep winding until the roller sits on the roots of the hair. Continue around the whole head always taking the same width of hair. Leave the finished set to dry naturally (roughly 20-30minutes) or dry with a diffuser attachment on your hairdryer to speed up the process.

5.

Beauty School Remove each roller and brush through the hair following the direction of the set. Remember to mist your brush with hairspray as this will help to smooth any stray hairs. The key is to make sure hair is super shiny and glossy – so a finishing spritz of Lee Stafford Shine Head Spray Shine (£5.49, Boots) will add a glass like affect to your finished wavy, glamorous hairstyle that will last all night long.
